I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1990 with a Masters in Social Work specializing in mental health counseling. I have a license to practice private psychotherapy in the State of Virginia (LCSW). Over the past several years I have obtained several post-graduate certifications including:
- Imago Relationship Therapy - Senior Clinician
- Internal Family Systems Therapy - Level 1 Clininician
- Certified Substance Abuse Counselor
- Employee Assistance Professional
- Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Specialist
- Systematic Training for Effective Parenting - Instructor
- Institute for Transpersonal Psychology - Certificate Program
My early career focused on treating persons with serious mental illness in community mental health settings.
In private practice, my focus has been on helping adults, adolescents and children with a variety of challenges including grief, loss, depression, anxiety, panic, post-partum depression, adult attention deficit disorder, elder care, pre-marital counseling, obesity, medical issues, low self esteem, family conflict, legal problems, childhood abuse, mental illness, work issues, parenting and divorce.
I have extensive experience with substance abuse diagnosis, referral and treatment. I frequently work in conjunction with 12-step programs and treatment centers for individuals and families who are suffering from or care about persons who are struggling with alcoholism, drug addiction, mental illness, or recovery from childhood, physical, mental or sexual abuse.
I appreciate and incorporate humor in all of my work. I have spent 25 years studying Eastern philosophy and am a dedicated practitioner of meditation.
